Fall Festival 2007
The Academy Hill Parents' Association recently sponsored their first fall festival. The day was enjoyed by well over 50 families, many of whom brought grandparents and friends along for the fun. With pumpkin painting, scarecrow building, seasonal items and goodies for sale, everyone enjoyed the beautiful fall weather. There was plenty bouncing in the bounce house and the champs were on the field for a serious game of kickball, parents included. Everyone left feeling great to be part of the Academy Hill Family, some with a artwork on their face from our own Mrs. Gobel and her gang!

Middle School Science Class Visits Forest Park (Spring 2007)
Each year, a group of Academy Hill students attends the E.C.O.S. program at Forest Park in Springfield. E.C.O.S., or the "Environmental Center for Our Schools," is a program that enables children to interact with nature and learn about the environment. There are different programs depending on the age group or grade level of the students. One program, that the students attended this past spring, is the ponding expedition. During this experience, the children learn about the communities within an ecosystem and how the communities are interdependent. The students hike through the forest where they examine plants and animals, and they visit ponds, where, working in pairs, they capture, study and release aquatic animals. These hands- on experiences enable the students to get an up-close view of the local species, as well as help them to developed skills such as communication, perseverance, and team work.
