Music

Fifth and sixth grade students, the Scholars, attend music twice a week. In that time, they study music theory through the use of Orff instruments; music appreciation through cultural units as diverse as the Blues, Native American music, and Latin jazz; and creative improvisation through jam sessions with voice and instruments from around the world.

Julia Kay carries herself with rhythm and a smile. When not teaching music or giving private lessons at Academy Hill, Julia teaches orchestra and plays in several local bands, from classical to swing to gypsy jazz.
