Spanish

Even in Kindergarten, Lower School students study Spanish or French for thirty minutes a day. Our specialists work with groups of four to eight students of similar proficiency. The youngest students gain exposure to the language through crafts, games, songs, and conversation, while the older students use readings, compositions, dialogues, and quizzes and projects to cement knowledge of vocabulary, grammar, and basic conjugation. Students also explore Francophone and Spanish-speaking cultures through cultural events, field trips, and creative activities.

Sandra Flower commutes nearly an hour each way, through Hartford traffic, to work with Academy Hill students. Schools closer to home have courted her, but she can't imagine walking away from the curricular freedom and engaged students at Academy Hill.
