Academy Hill’s core curriculum is based on state and national standards, which define what children should know and be able to do at the end of each grade level. Because our students are bright, curious, enthusiastic about learning, inquisitive, creative and motivated, our core curriculum serves only as a benchmark. Using research based teaching strategies geared specifically to what we know about the needs of the bright learner, curriculum is compacted so that children are not asked to relearn something that they already know.
The curriculum is accelerated simply because our children learn quickly; and it is individualized to accommodate the unique needs of each learner. More importantly, learning is enriched and extended, depending on each child’s particular interest in a content area. Learning does not take place only in the classroom. Our children make trips to science laboratories, museums, historical sites, businesses, hospitals and a variety of other places where they can experience learning in the real world. Critical thinking skills, based on Bloom’s Taxonomy, are developed from the earliest grades. Our teachers make learning interesting, challenging and fun!
