We are excited about the school year and we are looking forward to offering you and your family exciting activities planned for the year. The following activities will require support from the parent community to make them a success. The kind of help and time needed varies with each event. You can bake an item for the International Feast, purchase 100 ping pong balls for the Halloween Party, or help plan the annual Spring Gala.
Each year we send out a Parent Volunteer form asking for your preference for volunteer work and we use this form throughout the year. A Chairperson of an event will contact you if you specified interest in a specific event. At this time, you can determine your role and how much you would like to participate.
PA meetings are held once a month in the Teacher’s Lounge. A list of dates and times will be posted. All parents are considered members of the Parent Association and are invited to attend our meetings. We also encourage parents to join us in the events and activities the PA supports and sponsors. PA meeting agendas and minutes will be posted on the Academy Hill Parent Association web page.

Mission
Events Supported By The Parent Association
A Night out with Academy Hill
This year we’ve chosen Unos Pizzeria in Downtown Springfield to dine with Academy Hill families. A percentage of your total bill will go directly to the Academy Hill Parent Association to support activities throughout the year.
Annual Halloween Party
This is a really fun day for the school and an iconic tradition. The students wear costumes to school but the party starts at 1:00 and includes a parade, stations the students participate in to win fun stuff, murder mysteries, and lots of good food to eat. Parents are encouraged to stop by the school and of course dress up in a costume. We ask for volunteers to help run the stations and for donations for the prizes.
Dow Jones Lottery
This is a big fund raiser for the PA and makes great gifts for family and friends. We sell a book of 10 tickets for $10/ticket. The lottery starts in January, runs for 50 days that the stock market is open and is based on the closing Dow Jones number for each day. If the last 3 digits of the closing Dow Jones number matches your ticket, you win $50. The check is automatically mailed to the winner, so you don’t need to watch the Dow Jones if you don’t want to!
Original Artworks
Beth Gobel works with the students to produce an 8x10 picture of a selected theme each year. Before the holidays, all families receive an order form from a company called “Original Artworks” that produces products from the students’ pictures. Families can order items with their child’s picture imprinted on it (some items include t-shirts, coffee mugs, magnets, yard flags, pillow cases, quilt squares, tile, etc.) The artwork the students produce from this is amazing!
International Feast
This is a “pot luck” dinner held each year at the school. Families from multiple ethnic groups bring in their favorite dishes and it is truly a “ feast” of wonderful food and lots of fun for the students and families.
Teacher Appreciation
Each year we choose ways to show our appreciation to the faculty and staff at Academy Hill. These may include dinner, luncheon, holiday gifts and small tokens of appreciation throughout the year.
High Meadows
This is an annual event for the Academy Hill students and their families. We take a break from the classroom and spend the day eating, playing, swimming, singing, dancing and more eating at the High Meadows campground in Granby, Ct.
Guest Speaker Series
Each year we invite a speaker(s) to Academy Hill for the parents and/or for the students.
Spring Gala
This is a great way to celebrate the year. Typically a well known comedian from Boston is invited, we have dinner, an auction and a local band plays to round out the night. This is always fun and a big success.
